Buffs gear up for A&M-Kingsville

West Texas A&M continues its quest Friday to bring home a Lone Star Conference baseball crown, opening a crucial four-game series against Texas A&M-Kingsville at Wilder Park in Canyon.

No. 22 WT, tied for first place in the LSC race at 11-5, begins this series against No. 25 A&M-Kingsville (10-6) at 7 p.m. Friday with an expected pitching showdown.

WT right-hander Justin Kuks (6-0, 3.59 earned run average) matches against A&M-Kingsville righty Jaden Dillon (6-0, 1.23 ERA) in the LSC highlight game of the week.

Dillon will be facing a Buffs lineup that is ranked among the statistical leaders nationally.

The Buffs are hitting .352, third in the nation, and rank second nationally in slugging percentage at .537.

WT’s Justin Henderson ranks third in the LSC with a .394 batting average and has 21 runs batted in.

But Henderson isn’t the only tough out in the Buffs lineup, as four other WT hitters rank in the LSC top 10: Kendall Boone, sixth in batting average (.369) and tied for second in RBIs (31); Jordan Easom, seventh in batting average (.368), tied with Boone in RBIs (31), and whose 17 doubles are sixth in the nation; Nick Marquez, eighth in batting avearge (.365); and Eric Dorton, ninth in batting average (.352).
