Who was practicing with Viva Roller Derby for the second time Tuesday night. It was only the third time she has been on rollerskates, the first time being when she was 12 years old. She spent most of the evening practicing with the "fresh meat" coach, who was helping her learn to skate.

Her best advice to new skaters or to those new to the roller derby sport is, "don't be afraid to fall." She said if someone is afraid to fall, they will only wreck worse. All the skaters are 100 percent supportive and are there to build up her skills and confidence. Holderfield called the skaters "bad-asses" and hopes to be skating with her team in the summer for their first bouts in Ukiah, Reno and Hayfork.

"It seems like a lot of fun," she said. "You get to knock each other over, get back up and then go out for beers afterwards."

In addition to being a fun sport full of camaraderie, Viva Roller Derby is a non-profit organization supporting Wings of Eagles, which helps pay medical bills for
